Glyn Uzzell was born in Swindon, Wiltshire, England in 1930.
He studied Art and Education at Goldsmith's College London. Later he studied printmaking with William Hayter at Atelier 17 in Paris.
After working in Geneva for many years, he moved to Caramujeira in the Algarve in 1979 and set up his studio and Print Workshop.
He has exhibited widely, particularly in Switzerland , Germany and Portugal
where he has been associated with the Centro Cultural São Lourenço for more than 20 years. In England he is represented at the Rabley Drawing Centre near Marlborough.
His work has been shown at:
The International Art Fairs of Basle, Cologne, and Düsseldorf.
In Lisbon he has exhibited at the British Institute and at the Galeria
Municipal Gymnasio. 2006 he was invited to show at the Chelsea Arts Club in
London . His work is to be found in many institutional and private collections.
He explore the theme of abstracted landscapes but has also experimented with the idea of “collection” and with the use of strong colours and completely abstract forms.
His work is greatly influenced by the environment. Landscapes are alluded to but not with a straightforward topographical representation. Time, place and mood play their part in images that are ostensibly abstract but reveal a point of contact with the visual world, providing a focus behind the image. | | |
