Henri Goetz
Born in 1909 in New York.

He studied at the M.l.T. and at the Harward University where he starts
painting.
After having studied 6 month at the Grand Central Art School of New York, he left for Paris in 1930, attends the Academie Julian, the workshops of Montparnasse, and for a while the ”Ozenfant” workshop.
After a stay in the States in 1931-32, Goetz comes back to France where
he finally settles down.
1936- His painting becomes abstract or unreal.
1936-46- Period called ”Surrealist”. He makes an exhibition at the ”Salon
des surindépendants” in 1935 with Hans Hartung.
1946- Exhibition ”Ten years of painting” by Goetz in the ”Galerie Breteau”.
1947- Goetz makes exhibitions in the: Salon de Mai

and he starts making numerous private exhibitions in Paris and abroad.
1950- Goetz devotes himself to the artistical teaching.
1960- He gets interested in the external light which opens a way for a new step forward.
Goetz has published technical studies about pastel. 1968-The Maeght editions publish ”Engraving with carborundum” in which Goetz makos a description of
numerous processes perfected after several years of research. The most famous one is the ”method with carborundum” especially employed
by Miro, Tapies, Clave, Papart, Coignard and many other artists.
